February 17, 2010
I don’t know about you, but the first six weeks on the New Year have flown by. It’s already the middle of February.
How are your New Year’s resolutions coming? You know, the ones you made about losing weight, exercising more, quitting smoking.
What I’ve learned as the CEO of Northeast Community Clinics is change does not come easily and it does not come overnight. It requires an unfailing commitment and persistent reminder of your goal(s).
And it takes time.
Awareness is not enough. Action must follow.
Every day we must work toward our goals. That translates into action for positive change.
Your generous donations to NECC help us to work toward our goal of providing quality healthcare for those with the least access to it–-people with cultural and linguistic differences who may not be able to afford private insurance. Helping us helps them builds healthier families and stronger, healthier communities.
Although there are many tragedies around the world that grab our attention, and rightlyfully so, we must not forget those plights that in our immediate communities.
By donating to NECC, you are doing to your part to keeping your corner of it healthy and happy.

Be Well,

NECC Executive Director/CEO
Training began this month on a new patient navigation system called i2iTracks, a population based health management software designed to address multiple barriers to health care experienced by patients with economic, cultural and linguistic disparities – the kind NECC serves.
A population health management (chronic disease registry) system is an ecosystem software tool that helps clinicians make data informed decisions about their population and sub-populations of patients. “i2iTracks is a cost-effective solution for our clinics to ensure all our patients get the care and treatment required – for all their chronic illnesses and all necessary preventative health maintenance whenever they meet with their healthcare provider,” says Dr. Lau.
Purchase and implementation of i2iTracks was made possible by grants from three foundations: The California Wellness Foundation, The Ahmanson Foundation and The California Community Foundation.
Chronic diseases such as Diabetes, Hypertension, Asthma, Depression as well as many others, afflict approximately one in five Americans. Consequently, these diseases decrease a person’s quality of life while overwhelming health centers to provide care. Without active preventive healthcare, patients’ conditions typically digress so they later seek treatment at emergency facilities -- a burden on communities where they live.

“But the bottom line is providing the highest level of care to our patients with chronic conditions. And i2iTracks helps us do just that!”
Special thanks to The California Wellness Foundation, The Ahmanson Foundation and The California Community Foundation for making i2iTracks a reality in the upgrading of our clinics’ delivery of quality healthcare.
NECC’s own dietician, Erika Rodgveller, headlined the KWHY Channel 22 News recently to speak about first of the year diets and proper nutrition. Fluent in Spanish and English and learning French from her husband (they are newlyweds!), Erika was born in Long Beach, CA, but moved around the country. She learned Spanish at 17 when she lived on a farm in Spain. Before joining NECC, she spent three months in Paris getting better acquainted with her husband-to-be.
NECC’s outreach continues in downtown Los Angeles with participation in the Grand Opening of Central Farmers’ Market at Central and 43rd this month. NECC enrollers will be at the Market every Thursday from noon to 5 p.m.
NECC also participated in La Mujer De event at the convention center recently. More than 10,000 people attended. |
